Famed graffiti artist Banksy’s “Happy Choppers” was found in 2002 in Central London at a construction site at Whitecross Street Market. Banksy’s work is often juxtaposing. The artwork details military Apache attack helicopters flying in formation with the lead helicopter wearing a pink bow tie. The work combines power with impotence or weakness. A simple pink bow tie defuses the imposing military machines’ purpose of war. Found in London, Banksy’s piece is a reaction to England’s involvement in the current wars outside the country. The pink bow tie attached to the most extreme of helicopters makes the statement that military power is excessive and without care.
