Balloons come to life in Jeff Koons’ Celebration series (1994-2000) and Balloon Dog [Blue]is one of the more impressive in his progression of sculptures and paintings that encompass the ceremonies and images of holidays, birthdays and other party-related events. Koons is influenced by ordinary, everyday objects and delved into this series through his ideas on childhood and happy times, which he has delivered in Balloon Dog [Blue] and other pieces.

Balloon Dog [Blue] is stately in a technological sense, yet whimsical as well. The sculpture is exacting and representative of true balloon twist artistry. High chromium stainless steel comprises the body, which is meticulously fabricated to capture the true essence and detail of a balloon’s fullness. The piece is coated in a deep clear industrial blue that is completed in a striking mirror finish. There are other versions of the sculpture in five different colors, but Balloon Dog [Blue] is both remarkable and memorable in its presentation.
