“Keep It Real” is the name of two major works by the mysterious British artist Banksy. The first appearance is estimated to have been sighted in the early 21st century on the streets of London; more than a decade later, Banksy made a documentary titled “Keep It Real,” which provided a humorous look at his residency on the streets of Manhattan.
Banksy earlier named a couple of his American and Dutch exhibits “Keep It Real,” and they are based on his original graffiti stencil piece that features a chimpanzee wearing wraparound shades and carrying a sandwich board with the “Keep It Real” slogan emblazoned on the front. The idea of a chimpanzee promoting honesty via a sandwich board is at the same time provocative and outlandish, which is exactly the type of message that Banksy would think of delivering.
